Our Origin Story

It all began...

In the summer of 1983, Sea Cliff residents Karin Barnaby and George Santos approached me with the idea of starting a Sea Cliff community chorus. I responded enthusiastically, but suggested that we open membership to the greater North Shore communities. What ensued was the beginning of an almost 40-year endeavor in bringing the great masterworks of choral music to North Shore audiences.

Our First Works

Dr. Charles Gouse, then Supervisor of Music for the North Shore School District and Conductor of the newly formed North Shore Symphony Orchestra, invited our choir to join forces in what would be our first public concert- The Coronation Scene from Boris Godunov and the Brahm's Nanie were the first works performed by the NSCC. Following in December would be our first concert to feature the choir on its own: "A Season of Praise" - a beautiful program of shorter choral masterwork excerpts for the Advent and Christmas season.
